WELCOME TO THANKSGIVING IN TEXAS

Please use this site to post suggestions, ideas or comments in preparation for Thanksgiving in Texas. Can't wait for you all to come!

CHRISTMAS GIFT FROM HAL & SUSIE

A photographer will be at 4619 on Friday morning to take everyone's photo. We will begin with a group photo at 9:00 am -- please wear casual, neutral clothes. After the group photo, we will progress through the families in different groups -- what each of you would like. . You will be able to change into other clothes for other photos.

Once you are at the house you can choose your background and let me know what you have in mind. I have already met with the photographer and we have picked a view places that would work well.

Merry Christmas!

Activity - Wine Tasting - EVERY NIGHT

Jay is arranging this activity. We will make time for a nightly tasting Wed-Thurs-Fri-Sat. Jay is planning to bring 3 bottles for each night, so we’ll have plenty to taste, but feel free to bring a bottle or two if you’d like to add to the various categories.

Here are the themes:

Wednesday: “Name That Grape”. Wines will be single varietals from anywhere, any vintage.

Thursday: “Where in the World”. Wines will be pinot noirs (go great with turkey!) from any country, any vintage.

Friday: “Big and Bold”. Wines will be full-bodied reds from any area, blends or single varietals, any vintage.

Saturday: “The Price is Right?” Wines will be 2007 Cabernet sauvignons (but any vintage will suffice) at different price points.

Other ideas are encouraged and most welcome. House rules apply – taste blind, discuss, guess (not required for those who focus solely on imbibing), unveil, repeat.

Activity - CHOPPED - Friday evening

Chopped is a cooking competition that's all about skill, speed and ingenuity where four up-and-coming chef teams compete before a panel of three expert judges (the Sisters) and take everyday items and turn them into an extraordinary appetizer. The chef teams will be "chopped" from the competition until only one winner remains. The challenge? They have seconds to plan and 30 minutes to cook an amazing appetizer course with the basket of mystery ingredients given to them moments before the clock starts ticking! And the pressure doesn't stop there. Once they've completed their dish, they've got to survive the Chopping Block where our three judges are waiting to be wowed and not shy about voicing their culinary criticisms. Our host, Trey Popp (acclaimed Philadelphia food critic) ,will lead this high energy, high-pressure activity with commentary during and following the preparation and presentation.

Chef teams:
Kelly, Emily & Liz
Tom, Dave & Delys
Michael, Ryan & Jason
Hal, Landy & Jay

Rules: 30 minutes to formulate plan and prepare appetizer using each of the secret ingredients, other item from pantry and refrigerator may be used

Judging based on creativity, taste & presentation AND using the secret ingredients

Warning: If you haven't watched this show on the cooking network you might tune in!
